Soil and Water Conservation Districts (Grant, Delaware, Blackford, Jay, Randolph, and Darke counties)
These Soil & Water Conservation District provides information about soil, water, and related natural resource conservation; identifies and prioritizes local soil and water resource concerns; and connects land users to sources of educational, technical and financial assistance to implement conservation practices and technologies.
US EPA: United States Environmental Protection Agency
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA or sometimes USEPA) is an agency of the Federal government of the United States which was created for the purpose of protecting human health and the environment by writing and enforcing regulations based on laws passed by Congress.
Indiana Department of Environmental Management
The Section 205(j) program provides for projects that gather and map information on nonpoint and point source water pollution, develop recommendations for increasing the involvement of environmental and civic organizations in watershed planning and implementation activities, and develop and implement watershed management plans.
Indiana Department of Natural Resources Lake and River Enhancement Program
The goal of the Division of Fish & Wildlife’s Lake and River Enhancement (LARE) Program is to protect and enhance aquatic habitat for fish and wildlife, and to insure the continued viability of Indiana’s publicly accessible lakes and streams for multiple uses, including recreational opportunities. This is accomplished through measures that reduce non-point sediment and nutrient pollution of surface waters to a level that meets or surpasses state water quality standards.
Clean Water Indiana (CWI)
A state program funded by a portion of Indiana’s cigarette tax. It is administered by the Indiana State Department of Agriculture’s Division of Soil Conservation. As such, grants from this program are available only to Indiana’s Soil and Water Conservation District
Ball Brothers Foundation
The Ball Brothers Foundation is an independent, private, family philanthropic organization that is dedicated to improving the quality of life by building communities. This organization funds and supports these efforts through thoughtful and thorough examination and action. The Foundation supports and applauds efforts to educate and participate in sound conservation practices, data gathering, and is in support of agricultural processes and other land usages that work in balance with a healthy economy and environment.
George and Frances Ball Foundation
The George and Frances Ball Foundation was founded in 1937 as a private foundation with initial funding from George and Frances Ball. The Foundation was “organized exclusively to promote charitable, scientific and educational purposes.” The Foundation has a strong commitment to the needs of east central Indiana. Support beyond east central Indiana regions has been largely limited to institutions of higher education.
Red-tail Conservancy
The Red-tail Conservancy preserves, protects, and restores natural areas and farm land in East Central Indiana while increasing awareness of our natural heritage. This not-for-profit land trust focuses on five counties to provide land conservation options to individual landowners. They also partner with local governments in restoration projects while providing land stewardship activities and education for these communities. Since 1999, the Red-tail Conservancy has protected nearly 2000 acres of natural areas and farm land and is committed for greater conservation efforts in the future.
Delaware County Office of Geographic Information
The Delaware County Office of Geographic Information manages the county’s Geographic Information System (GIS). Their goals are to maintain and update the county’s GIS information databases, deliver this data to the public, private sectors, and government agencies, and to provide consulting and application development for projects in the area. This data and assistance aids in making informed decisions and creating effective developments.
The Muncie Sanitary District and the Muncie Bureau of Water Quality
The Muncie Sanitary District and the Bureau of Water Quality’s vision is to become the principal regional watershed leader by creating resources, educational programs and partnerships that promote, protect, and enhance the biological, chemical, and physical integrity of the White River ecosystem.
Delaware County Department of Stormwater Management
The Delaware County Department of Stormwater Management’s vision is to create resources, educational programs and partnerships that promote, protect, and enhance the biological, chemical, and physical integrity of the White River ecosystem by maintaining and promoting proper stormwater techniques.
Ball State Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management
The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management at Ball State University promotes the advancement of the educational, professional, and social interest of being stewards of the land.
Ball State Department of Biology
The Department of Biology at Ball State University promotes exploration, research, and study of nature and life.
Ball State Landscape Architecture Department
The Department of Landscape Architecture at Ball State University promotes the creation, design, and maintenance of the natural and built environment by creating safe, functional, and sustainable places for everyday life.
Ball State Geological Sciences Department
The Geological Sciences Department at Ball State University promotes the study of the composition of earth, and how best to find, use, and protect its mineral, energy, and water resources.
Ball State Department of Journalism
The Department of Journalism offers professional programs in advertising, journalism, graphics, magazine media, news, photo, public relations, and teacher education. Departmental majors in advertising, journalism and public relations are accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC).
Taylor University Department of Earth and Environmental Science
Taylor University’s Earth and Environmental Science (EES) program balances theoretical knowledge with practical experience and integrates Christian ethics with a deep concern for God’s creation.
Delaware-Muncie Metropolitan Plan Commission (DMMPC)
The Delaware-Muncie Metropolitan Plan Commission (DMMPC) plans and approves the structure and infrastructure of the City of Muncie and the unincorporated Delaware County. This organization is responsible for all transportation planning activities.
Area Planning Commission of Randolph County
The Area Planning Commission oversees planning and zoning for the county and issuing Improvement Location Permits for new construction.
Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service: Randolph County
The Cooperative Extension Service is one of the nation’s largest providers of scientific research-based information and education. It provides a network of colleges, universities, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, serving communities and counties across America. Local Extension Services provide information about agriculture and natural resources, consumer and family sciences, economic and community development, and 4-H Youth programs for their particular county.
NRCS- Conservation Implementation Team and District Conservationist
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is dedicated to conserving natural resources on private lands. It was originally established by Congress in 1935 as the Soil Conservation Service and has expanded to become a conservation leader for all natural resources; ensuring private lands are conserved, restored, and more resilient to environmental challenges. NRCS works with private landowners through conservation planning and assistance designed to benefit the soil, water, air, plants, and animals that result in productive lands and healthy ecosystems.
Pheasants Forever
The East Central Indiana Chapter of Pheasants Forever is a unique organization that is dedicated to the conservation of pheasants, quail, and other wildlife through habitat improvements, public awareness, education and land management policies, and programs. This organization has coordinated with several state and national agencies in planting habitat plots in several counties in Indiana. They use grassroots methods for fundraising and programming and are focused on improving and maintaining a variety of habitats through action and education.
